C# Online.NET Book Review

I am preparing myself to take the .NET Exam 70-536 before my coupon runs out. I purchased this book; because, it is from Microsoft which I assumed would be the definitive word for the exam. And, well it may be. However, the book is so poorly organized, written, and edited that I have little use for it except, occasionally, to look up a particular topic. Although you can use it in that way, poor editing, and poor sentence structure combine to make the book virtually unreadable. If you are looking for C# example code, this is not the book for you either. I would critique the writing style, but it does not have one.

Admittedly, the C# language is a concretion of constructs and features; so, it is not an easy subject to organize into a book. But, all the more important to organize the material properly for the reader. This book is of no more use than your C# Favorites list in your browser.

Normally, reviewers get free copies of the books they review. Reviewers are accustomed to receiving early copies filled with typos and errors: We tend not to criticize on that score knowing the store copies will be more error free. However, I have the retail copy; and, it has many typos and errors.

Since I—personally—purchased this book, I need to try to maintain some objectivity. On the plus side, it does cover quite a few C# topics. And, it gives extensive coverage—more than a hundred pages—to debugging under Visual Studio. This book is suited for experienced Windows programmers who want to research isolated topics.
