Fourteen XP Practices
Now that you have seen the foundation on which XP is based, you need to take a look at the practices that implement these values and principles. The practices defined by XP are actually “best practices” that successful software development projects have implemented for years. The big difference in XP is that it combines all of these practices into a single methodology. This is an advantage for XP because the practices are not based on theory like many other methodologies. Combining all of these practices together creates a synergy that produces a greater whole. It is these practices that you will use in your day-to-day life, and it is these practices that make XP unique.
Traditionally, there are 12 practices in XP, but we offer you here the 14 practices we have most success with in our work.
Note XP sometimes uses the terms customer and stakeholder interchangeably. We will use the term customer to apply to both.
