 Term Domain Name System
Definition  DNS is an Internet service that translates domain names into their corresponding numeric IP addresses. While alphabetical domain names may be easier for people to remember, the actual Internet addressing scheme is based on numeric IP addresses (nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn). The DNS system is a federation of network servers each of which specializes in translating a particular domain.
